Police in Nyeri County have launched a manhunt for a suspect accused of raping a 46 year old mentally challenged woman in Nyeri.
The incident was reported at Ihururu Police Station yesterday night.
According to the police report,the matter was reported by a resident of Dedan Kimathi Ward in Kimathi Location within Kanjora Sub-location.
The complainant alleged that her daughter PPP was attacked while heading to the family farm to help her mother carry harvested foodstuffs.
While passing through Kahigaini village, she reportedly encountered a man identified as Wangombe alias Kamani, aged about 50 years, who is said to be a casual labourer well known to the family.
Police say the suspect allegedly forcefully dragged the woman into a nearby bush where he raped her before fleeing from the scene.
Officers from Ihururu Police Station later escorted the victim and her mother to Ihururu Level IV Hospital for medical attention and further examination as investigations commenced.
Police confirmed that efforts to trace and arrest the suspect are ongoing, with the case currently being handled by officers attached to Ihururu Police Station.
