A sombre mood has engulfed Luanda Village in Bungoma West after a 20 year old man was found dead in a suspected suicide linked to betting losses.

According to a police report filed at Namwela Police Post today, the incident was reported by village elder Caroline Nasimiyu.

She indicated that she received information at around 9:00 a.m. that a man had been found hanging from an avocado tree.

Police officers from Namwela Police Post, accompanied by DCI personnel from Bungoma West, visited the scene and identified the deceased as Luke Wanjala Wakhungu.

Investigators established that the body was hanging from the tree with a green V-shaped manila rope tied around the neck.

Police noted that the deceased’s fingers were clenched at the time the body was discovered.

They recovered a suicide note from the deceased’s trouser pocket, in which he allegedly indicated that he had lost Sh60,000 through a betting site and felt there was “no need to live.”

A mobile phone was also recovered at the scene and preserved as an exhibit.

The scene was processed and documented before the body, which reportedly had no visible physical injuries, was moved to Bungoma Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
