OCS arrested after shooting drama at Eldoret nightclub

Two police officers among them an OCS from Nairobi have been arrested after a shooting incident at a nightclub in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County.

According to a police report filed at Eldoret Police Station, the incident occurred at Baniyas Night Club yesterday night.

The matter was reported by the club manager, Peter Mugo, who told police that two men entered the entertainment joint at around 12:30pm and spent the better part of the day drinking alcohol and eating.

Trouble allegedly began at around 9:00pm after a disagreement erupted between the pair and a waiter at the club.

The situation quickly turned chaotic when one of the men reportedly drew a pistol and fired a shot inside the premises.

Bouncers at the club are said to have acted swiftly and managed to overpower and disarm the suspect before police officers arrived at the scene.

A team led by the OCS Eldoret Police Station responded to the incident and arrested the two suspects.

Officers recovered a Ceska pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition, alongside one spent cartridge from the scene.

Police further recovered Sh673,000 in cash, 5 Euros, 15 US dollars and 10 Polish zloty from the suspects during a search.

The two men reportedly sustained minor facial injuries after they were allegedly assaulted by members of the public during the commotion.
Investigations later established that the suspects were serving police officers identified as Chief Inspector John Ruto, the OCS Villa Police Station in Kibra, Nairobi Region, and Police Constable Peter Kiprotich Ruto attached to Kapsaos Police Post in Turbo,Uasin Gishu County.

The two officers were detained at Eldoret Police Station pending further investigations.
