A man aged 42 has been placed under police guard after seriously assaulting his wife by cutting her on the head with an axe in Kibarani area, Jomvu, Mombasa County.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning.
According to a police report, the suspect, identified as Allan Asige, attacked his 35 year old wife, Mwende Ndambuki, following an incident whose circumstances were yet to be established.
Members of the public intervened and brought both the suspect and the injured woman to Mikindani Police Station.
The woman was reportedly bleeding profusely, while the suspect had been subjected to mob injustice by members of the public.
The two were rushed to Mikindani Medical Hospital for treatment, where the woman was admitted in serious condition.
The suspect was placed under police guard while receiving medical attention.
Police have commenced investigations into the incident, with the case being handled by officers from Mikindani Police Station.
