A 48 year old German tourist has sustained injuries after he was struck in the eye by a beer bottle during an altercation at a popular entertainment spot in Mtwapa, Kilifi County, on Friday.
According to a police incident report filed at the Tourist Police Unit (TPU) Mtwapa Base, the tourist, identified as Schloesser Mirko, had been enjoying drinks at Legends Pub with a female companion, Josephine Masika, when an argument broke out involving another woman identified as Alice Njeri.
Police said the confrontation quickly turned physical, and in the heat of the altercation, the suspect allegedly hurled a beer bottle at Josephine.
However, the bottle missed its intended target and struck the German tourist on his right eye.
The victim suffered injuries amounting to actual bodily harm and was reportedly left bleeding profusely.
Members of the public advised him to seek police assistance.
During the ensuing commotion, the suspect fled the scene as angry revellers attempted to pursue her.
She reportedly ran toward Mtwapa Police Station, where she was arrested by officers after the complainant and his companion also arrived at the station.
The injured tourist was referred to Mtwapa Sub-County Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Police have launched investigations into the incident, with officers from the Tourist Police Unit at Mtwapa Base handling the case.
