Two Congolese nationals were seriously injured after an angry mob accused them of practicing witchcraft in Dzitsoni Market, Chasimba Location, Kilifi County.
The incident which occurred yesterday prompted for a police rescue operation after it was reported by Chasimba MCA Kazungu Mbura, who alerted officers that two men were under attack by members of the public.
The local Police assisted by detectives from DCI Chonyi, rushed to the scene and found a hostile crowd attempting to force entry into two houses where the two Congolese nationals had sought refuge.
Police managed to disperse the mob after firing several rounds into the air.
The two victims, identified as Erick Mucho, 29, and David Mucho, 36, together with the alleged victim, were rescued and taken to Chasimba Health Centre for medical examination and treatment.
Medical examination established that the alleged victim, Kelvin Kitsao, 22, who had claimed he had been bewitched, had no physical abnormalities, with doctors confirming his private parts were in normal condition.
The two Congolese nationals sustained severe injuries during the attack.
After receiving initial treatment at Chasimba Health Centre, they were referred to Kilifi County Referral Hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
Police arrested Kelvin Kitsao to assist with investigations.
