A wife of a police officer is receiving treatment at Isiolo General Hospital after an apparent suicide attempt at Kathare Police Station in Buuri East, Meru County.
The victim identified as Susan Wairimu, reportedly visited the station on Sunday afternoon with a young child following a domestic dispute involving her husband, a police officer attached to the station.
Police said the disagreement allegedly led to damage to the officer’s government issued housing, including broken window panes and destroyed food items.
She was cautioned against damaging government property before leaving the station.
According to police, she later returned to the station and consumed the contents of a small bottle, which was identified as an insecticide branded Oshothion 50EC.
She became critically ill immediately afterwards and was rushed to Isiolo General Hospital for emergency treatment.
Medical personnel confirmed that she is in stable condition and continues to receive treatment.
Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
