Police in Ruiru, Kiambu County, have arrested a 26 year old Ugandan national following an alleged rape, robbery and attempted ransom incident at Kiratina village within Gatongora area.
The incident according to police is said to have happened yesterday in the afternoon and involved a woman aged 20 years.
The woman, reported that the ordeal occurred at around 2:30pm while she was walking home from work.
She informed investigators that she was accosted by a man she said she could positively identify.
The suspect was allegedly armed with a panga and threatened her before forcefully escorting her to his house situated in a valley within Kiratina village, where he raped her and robbed her of a Samsung A06 mobile phone.
Police said the suspect later used the stolen phone to contact the victim’s parents demanding ransom money in exchange for her release.
The victim, however, managed to escape from the house and sought refuge at a neighbour’s home.
Her neighbour alerted the local Nyumba Kumi chairman, who in turn contacted police officers from Gatongora Police Station.
Officers visited and processed the scene before arresting the suspect identified as Dennis Namangolo while allegedly still armed with the panga.
Police also recovered the stolen mobile phone believed to belong to the victim.
Both the suspect and the victim were later escorted to Ruiru Level IV Hospital for medical examination as investigations continue.
The suspect remains in custody at Gatongora Police Station pending further investigations and possible arraignment in court.
