Police in Mtwapa, Kilifi County, have arrested a 32 year old man accused of seriously assaulting his neighbour in an incident believed to have been triggered by a love triangle.
Police from Mtwapa Police Station have indicated in their report that the incident which occured yesterday was reported by a community policing member from the Kwa Wapokomo area.
He alerted them that a man had been attacked and rushed to hospital with severe head injuries.
Police in their preliminary investigations established that the victim, Smith Idah, 50, was walking home from Mtwapa town when he was ambushed a short distance from his residence by his immediate neighbour, Eliud Ruto (32).
He assaulted him before fleeing the area.
The victim sustained multiple head injuries and was rushed to Mtwapa Sub-County Hospital, where he was admitted.
Following the attack, police launched a manhunt and traced the suspect to the Yellow House area, where he was allegedly attempting to secure transport to escape from the neighbourhood.
He was arrested and taken into custody at Mtwapa Police Station.
During a search at the suspect’s residence, officers recovered a blood stained spanner believed to have been used in the assault.
The weapon was seized as an exhibit to aid investigations.
Police suspect the attack may have been motivated by a domestic dispute involving a love triangle, although investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
